An implant involves the insertion of a titanium post through the gum and into the jawbone where it becomes anchored like the root of a natural tooth. In a few months, the post fuses to the bone, creating exceptional stability. When the gum has healed, a crown (usually all-porcelain) is fitted to the post to complete the procedure.

Dental implants are surgical procedures that are performed either in the dental office or a hospital, depending upon the complexity of the case. Local or general anesthesia is typically used.

Are dental implants right for you?

Dental implants are not for everyone. They take much longer to complete than other tooth replacement procedures and require far more office visits. To be a candidate, you must be in overall good health with adequate bone to support the implant.

Dental implants are appropriate for individual teeth, multiple teeth, or as anchors for bridges and dentures. We often recommend them in areas where outward facial appearance could be greatly affected by jawbone shrinkage due to tooth loss.
