Dentures

If you have lost most or all of your teeth as a result of injury or disease, they should be replaced by either dentures or dental implants. Less costly than implants, natural-looking artificial teeth will not only improve your appearance and make you look younger and feel better, they will also aid in retaining your facial structure and muscle tone.

Depending upon the condition of your gums and any teeth you still have, we will recommend either conventional dentures or overdentures. Conventional dentures replace all natural teeth. Overdentures are worn over any remaining healthy teeth. Both dentures are custom-made from molds taken of your mouth and require two or more office visits to complete fitting.

What to expect with dentures

Making and fitting dentures is an art we take seriously. We will go to great lengths to ensure your dentures not only look like your own natural teeth but are also completely comfortable. As long as your gums are healthy, you should not have any soreness or irritation once your mouth becomes accustomed to their presence.

Over time, your dentures will naturally wear down. Or they may become loose or painful, a sign your jawbone and gum ridges are receding as a result of aging. In either case, it may be time to reline or rebase your dentures, or replace them entirely.

Implant-supported dentures

For a more natural, more secure fit, you may wish to consider implant-supported overdentures. Anchored to the jawbone by surgically-installed titanium posts, this style of denture snaps firmly into place using metal clips and eliminates the need for adhesives. They are suitable for new or existing dentures. If you already have dentures, we can adapt them for use with implants. Because implant-supported dentures are removable, they require the same care as conventional models.

How to care for your dentures

Dentures require the same attention you would give your natural teeth. To avoid discoloration and plaque buildup, clean them daily. And, remember, denture wearers are still susceptible to gum disease and infection. That’s why you should visit our office at least twice a year for professional oral care.

Dentures come with a one-year warranty on workmanship. During the warranty period, we will repair or replace them at no cost to you provided that you visit our office for a routine examination every six months.
